Field Street I
During 1990 CMHC obtained grant funds from the Lilly Endowment, Inc., These funds allowed CMHC to prepare the Field Street In-Fill Housing Development and Neighborhood Preservation Plans. CMHC then obtained a Lilly Implementation Grant and grants from the MichCon Foundation, Detroit Edison Foundation, and the Coalition for Human Needs to cover development costs necessary to obtain $1.8 million in permanent financing for Phase I of the Plan. Phase I included the construction of 21 townhouse rental units consisting of 2 and 3 bedroom units for low-income households. MSHDA approved tax-credits and a mortgage loan and the national Equity Fund provided equity funding for the project. Construction of Phase I began in July 1992 and was completed in September 1993
